For more than 25 years, the Asthma/Allergy Clinic at Capitol Hill Health Center (one of PCHC’s five major sites), has treated allergic diseases and asthma of all severities in a comprehensive and ongoing manner.
Allergy skin testing and spirometry (measurement of lung function) are available at this site. Our board-certified allergist (Dr. Stanley H. Block) and our certified asthma nurse educator (Judith Morris, RN, AE-C) provide comprehensive asthma and allergy care at our Capitol Hill location to PCHC patients by referral from PCHC’s primary-care clinicians.
PCHC also has a special program to care for patients with asthma.
The Chronic Care Model includes a team that consists of a doctor, a nurse, an health aide, and specially trained AmeriCorps members
A computer registry tracks improvements in care; and patients are taught about self-management goals.
Workshops are conducted in Spanish and English so patients and their families can learn how to take control of their asthma.
AmeriCorps members make home visits to bring education to the patients.
