Dr. Karen Ng has been recognized with the President’s Award for Excellence, presented annually to a team member who demonstrates the values of Providence Community Health Centers and acts as a role model to others. Dr. Ng is a Family Medicine physician at our Atwood Health Center. She previously cared for patients at our Olneyville and Central health Centers.
This is a big year for our honoree. This award coincides with Dr. Ng’s 25th year of delivering superlative patient care at PCHC. Dr. Ng was also recently honored with the Golden Stethoscope Award, which recognizes an exemplary clinician who demonstrates clinical excellence and a commitment to compassionate patient care.
“I couldn’t have done this without the support of everyone in this organization,” said Dr. Ng. “Special thanks to my medical assistant Jessica Solis, who has been with me for over 10 years and is my right hand.”

Dr. Ng shared that she recently reviewed her medical school application and was struck by the timeliness of one of the things she wrote: “Health care is a human right.”
“The three words that come to mind when I think of Dr. Ng are quality, compassion, and commitment,” said Merrill Thomas, President and CEO, who presented the award to Dr. Ng at our March All Staff meeting.
In her remarks, Dr. Ng said, “Remember to help each other out. We’re in this together throughout all the ups and downs. And an important lesson I’ve learned as a parent: don’t be a problem maker; be a problem solver.”
Dr. Ng also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She has demonstrated her commitment to the next generation by initiating a mentoring program at PCHC to support new clinicians as they launch their careers.
When asked what she loves most about her job, Dr. Ng said, “The trust that patients put in us to partner with them regarding their health. I especially love taking care of families and helping them navigate issues related to their health.”
