Matthew Blackey recognized as our 2026 Beacon Award winner

Matthew Blackey, Director of Dental and Specialty Services, has been named Providence Community Health Centers’ 2026 Beacon Award honoree. Each year, the Rhode Island Health Center Association presents the Beacon Award to an outstanding employee from each of the state’s federally qualified health centers.

Matt has served PCHC for 11 years and currently oversees Adult and Pediatric Dental, Optometry, Rheumatology, and Asthma and Allergy services.

Throughout his tenure, Matt has played a vital role in expanding access to specialty care for our patients. He has worked closely with the dental team to strengthen and grow services over the years. In 2025 alone, PCHC’s dental program provided more than 32,000 patient visits.

Matt’s nomination highlighted his ability to balance operational efficiency, quality, compassion, and mission-driven care. As one employee shared:

“Matt exemplifies the very best qualities of a leader—dedication, compassion, and a deep commitment to the success and well-being of his team. His guidance has shaped us into stronger, more confident leaders.”

During a particularly challenging time at the dental clinic, Matt was asked what keeps him going when things become difficult. His response was simple but powerful:

“Everyone deserves a smile.”

Matt will be recognized alongside other honorees at the 2026 Beacon Awards on August 6 at the Roger Williams Park Casino. The ceremony is held annually during National Health Center Week, which takes place this year from August 2–8.
