Veronica Brimpong named 2024 Community/Home/Public Health Nurse of the Year
Congratulations to Veronica Brimpong, MSN, RN, who has been named the 2024 Community/Home/Public Health Nurse of the Year as part of Rhode Island Monthly’s annual Excellence in Nursing Awards. Veronica, a charge nurse at our Randall Square Health Center, was recognized on September 12 at a ceremony at the Crowne Plaza with her fellow awardees.
In her Rhode Island Monthly interview, Veronica, who joined PCHC in 2019, said, “I learned that community health outcomes were important to me and I wanted to make a difference holistically in my patients’ lives. Increasing health literacy, addressing various health inequities and training new nurses became my goal.”
Each year, Rhode Island Monthly, in partnership with the Rhode Island State Nurses Association, honors local nurses working in a variety of settings. The winners are chosen by an expert panel of nurse leaders from outside of Rhode Island.
“In this type of nursing, you are part of a team that works to keep patients out of the hospital,” she said. “You are the listening ear for patient's mental health concerns. You are the voice that can lead to better health outcomes.”
Veronica recently earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Population/Public Health Nursing from Rhode Island College. She recognized her colleagues at Randall Square as a “passionate and kindhearted group of people that have allowed me grow and come into my own.”
She continues to focus on improving the well-being of the community one person at a time. “Community health nursing is more than developing a skill set; it is about developing innovative ideas to better our community as a whole,” Veronica said. “Community nursing is where my heart lives. I don't think I could ever see me do anything else but caring for my neighbors.”
